Founder and Managing Director

Photo of Nicola CoweeNicola started Halcyon Virtual Assistance to provide support to historians who would rather be in an archive or writing in their garret than dealing with yet another administrative task that is becoming an essential, if time consuming, part of being a historian.

Nicola’s love of history began with ancient Greece, which lead to a trio of classically named cats. Her interest soon broadened to encompass film history and women’s history before gaining an MA in Historical Research in 2001 from Birkbeck College, University of London. Her particular interest is 20th century social history.

From 2000-2003 she worked at the Institute of Historical Research, gaining valuable experience of working with established and up-and-coming historians. At the IHR she managed the fellowship and scholarship application processes and assisted with the running of major conferences. She then moved to the collaborative London Consortium where she worked with cultural theorists, art historians and architects. Before establishing Halcyon Virtual Assistance she worked as a PA to one of the UK’s top film producers, a demanding position where she honed both her organisational and diplomatic skills.

When not working with Halcyon clients Nicola enjoys reading crime books, from British detective fiction of the 1930s to American noir, dancing lindy-hop and making tasting notes on Harry Craddock’s finest selection.
